I started my journey with Healing Touch in 1992 becoming a CHTP and CHTI, teaching many classes over the past 20 years. I had the opportunity to be the Coordinator for Integrative Therapies for 5+ years at the University of Minnesota Medical Center which gave me a rich experience. I would like the opportunity to serve on the Board in gratitude for what Healing Touch has given me and continue to spread Healing Touch into many cultures here and throughout the world.

I bring the following skills to this role:

* Registered Nurse for 50+ years
* Certified Midwife in England - 1970; Nurse-Midwife in Kenya, East Africa for 3 years
* AHNA member since 1986
* Co-founder of Minnesota Holistic Nurses Association - 1987
* Spiritual Director since 1996; Taught in the Spiritual Direction program for 6 years
* Helped bring Healing Touch to Minnesota in 1992 and coordinated many classes
* CHTP – 1996; CHTI - 1997
* As an instructor, taught over 200 classes (Courses 1-5)
* Mentored over 50 students moving from Course 4 to Course 5
* Committee Member of the Instructor Training Application Committee 2012-2017
* Served one year as Chair of the above Committee
* Worked at University of Minnesota Medical Center as Coordinator of Integrative Therapies for 5+ years

Board Member

Lynn LeMere, RN, BSN, CHTP/I  has been a nurse for 32 years. She has worked in Neurology, Neurosurgical ICU, Cardiac, Perioperative, and Care Coordination as a nurse in hospital settings. She has worked as a Case Manager in Hospice and Disease Management. Many professional and personal experiences lead her to take Healing Touch classes.  Healing Touch fit in perfectly with all the self care and holistic health care that she learned in Nursing School at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and restored her passion for nursing. Her strong desire to share her passion of Healing Touch motivated her to become an instructor of Healing Touch.

Donna Henry, Board Member

Donna is a Charter Member of Healing Beyond Borders, has been a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner since 1997 and is a Certified Advanced Holistic Nurse. She served on the Healing Beyond Borders Ethics Committee from 2010 to 2018. Donna was an educator and administrator in a community college setting for 30 years, retiring in 2007 from her position as Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. She continues to mentor nurses on their career paths. In previous roles, Donna has managed budgets; provided leadership, mentorship, and assessment for faculty, staff, and students; written grant proposals; organized conferences; and collaborated with colleagues, administrators, and accrediting organizations. In her Healing Touch practice, Donna works with family members and long-term clients in the community. She recently started offering voluntary Healing Touch sessions to support those who volunteer in her local community. Donna continues to enjoy new learning opportunities and staying current in holistic health and Healing Touch. Donna shares, “The services and connections of HBB have helped me survive and thrive through several difficult times, including the pandemic. I would like to give back in service to the organization.”

 

Lisa Anselme, Executive Director

Executive Director

Lisa Anselme is a Registered Nurse of 44+ years and a passionate, dedicated advocate for holistic/integrative health.  A long time consultant to health care facilities in integrative health, she is the Executive Director for Healing Beyond Borders. Lisa holds a Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies from the University of Iowa and pursued graduate coursework in Biomedical Ethics. She has co-taught biomedical ethics to Iowa medical students under the tutelage of bioethicist Dr. Robert Wier and served on panels for ethical decision making at the University of Iowa and Healing Beyond Borders.

Lisa has held certification as a Clinical Transplant Coordinator, is a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Instructor through Healing Beyond Borders, a Certified Holistic Nurse through AHNCC, a Usui Reiki practitioner and teacher, and Jin Ki Do and Qi Gong practitioner.  Lisa teaches Courses 1-5 of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program within the USA and internationally. She has expertise in the clinical areas of pediatrics, nephrology, and transplantation, and was part of the University of Iowa team that examined the effects of dietary protein restriction and strict blood pressure control in the randomized controlled national clinical trial Modification of Diet in Renal Disease, and co-investigator in the N. American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies.

Lisa has published in professional health care journals and presented widely to both professional and lay audiences. She is editor of Healing Beyond Borders’ quarterly publication Perspectives in Healing, co-author of Healing Touch: Enhancing Life through Energy Therapy (2014), co-author of the text, Foundations and Practice of Healing Touch (2017), Past President and co-founder of LifeSpark Cancer Resources and Energy Partners program, (Denver) and an instructor in the Integrative Health Program at Red Rocks College, Denver, CO. She serves on the Consciousness and Healing Initiative’s (CHI) Practitioners Council. Lisa maintains a private practice in Holistic Nursing and Energy Therapies in Lakewood, CO.

Joel Anderson, Immediate Past President

Joel is an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Nutrition from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, and a certificate in Advanced Clinical Dementia Practice from the University of Michigan. Joel completed a NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellowship in the conduct of clinical research at the Center for the Study of Complementary and Alternative Therapies at the University of Virginia.

Joel is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. He also is an active member of the International Dementia Scholars Collaborative and the International Family Nursing Association, as well as the Kappa Omicron Nu honor society and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He serves as a peer reviewer for the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, the Tri-Services Nursing Research Program, and the Wellcome Trust. Joel is editor of the International Family Nursing Association blog, a member of the Communications Committees for both the International Family Nursing Association and the National Hartford Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence, and Secretary of the International Dementia Scholars Collaborative. He also is the President of Healing Beyond Borders, an international non-profit integrative health organization.

Joel’s research program focuses on non-pharmacological interventions for symptom management and caregiver support in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care. This focus includes an exploration of the psychosocial impacts of dementia caregiving in an effort to develop person- and family-centered intervention strategies to alleviate caregiver strain and improve quality of life. He is currently involved in several funded studies to examine family quality of life in dementia and to ascertain issues related to caregiving, including the use of social media as part of the family caregiving experience, as well as the unique needs of the LGBTQ caregiver population. Additionally, Joel collaborates with nursing researchers at the Inova Health System in Northern Virginia on several projects to improve patient-centered outcomes in the acute care setting.

He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in numerous academic journals, including Research in Gerontological Nursing, the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Brain Research, the Journal of Holistic Nursing, Holistic Nursing Practice, and the Journal of Family Nursing

For over 15 years, Joel has been actively involved in efforts related to multicultural inclusion within academic institutions. As a doctoral student at UNCG, he was a member of the Provost’s Student Advisory Committee and the Inclusive Community Initiative Task Force of the Faculty Senate. While at UVA, Joel was a member of the School of Nursing Diversity Committee, a faculty member of the Compassionate Care Initiative, and a faculty ally of the Inclusion, Diversity, and Excellence Achievement Initiative. He also served as member of the UVA Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Planning Committee for five years and co-chaired the UVA Health System MLK Sub-Committee. In 2016, Joel received the UVA Health System Martin Luther King, Jr. Award in recognition of his dedicated work related to diversity and inclusion. Since joining the faculty of the UTK College of Nursing, he has been part of the PhD Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Task Force to ensure that the College of Nursing Strategic Plan is culturally congruent and inclusive. Joel currently serves as a member of the UTK Faculty Senate, including the Faculty Senate Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and as co-chair of the Chancellor’s Commission for LGBT People.
