Secretary

Hello, my name is Christa Voorn. I am a Canadian and Dutch nurse, residing in the Netherlands. I have lived and worked internationally in Canada, USA, Vietnam and the Netherlands. My life has been enriched through these diverse experiences and allows me to navigate the cultural nuances each of these unique countries bring.

I have worked in various academic Adult and Pediatric Intensive Care Units and was Operations Director of International SOS Assistance in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Presently, I work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (High Care) at Erasmus University Medical Center-Sophia Children’s Hospital, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Unknowingly, my journey with Healing Touch started in 1990, when a former clinical instructor from my alma mater suggested I attend the first Healing Touch class in Canada. I didn’t, but the seed was planted. In 2015, in a moment of quiet contemplation and self-reflection, I asked myself, “And now what?” The answer appeared spontaneously, Healing Touch.

In 2018, I became a CHTP and registered my own practice, Integrative Balance. I am now an Instructor-in-Training for Course 1, Healing Touch Mentor and a student in the Integrative Nursing program at the University of Applied Sciences, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. My quality project plan, ‘Code Rest’, is a self-care initiative, utilizing Healing Touch, for Erasmus MC healthcare professionals. Through patience, passion and persistence, my dream is that this concept will be implemented and that I may teach Healing Touch classes, use Healing Touch as an integrative intervention within the patient population and participate in research.

I volunteer with various Dutch healthcare committees including, Erasmus MC PICU Complementary Care (chairperson), Platform Healing Touch in the Netherlands (member) and Complementary Care to Integrative Nursing – COZIN (member, project group for the Dutch Nurses’ Association). This has allowed me the opportunity to promote Healing Touch in the Netherlands. I look forward to serving on the HBB Board of Directors, in an international capacity, to spread the vision and mission.
